SMU fires athletic director Steve Orsini

May 17 is not a normal date to hear that an athletic director has been fired, but that doesn't matter much to SMU, which surprisingly fired AD Steve Orsini effective immediately on Thursday. School president R. Gerald Turner announced the change in a press release but did not give any specific reasons as to why Orsini was let go.

McMurphy: Old Dominion to C-USA starting in '13

Old Dominion will officially announce Thursday it will move to Conference USA in 2013. On May 1, CBSSports.com reported ODU would join C-USA along with North Texas, Florida International, Louisiana Tech, Texas San Antonio and Charlotte.

Washington, D.C. wins final 2013 NCAA regional

On Wednesday morning the NCAA announced the Verizon Center earned the honors to host the East Regional on March 28 and 30 of next year. Georgetown will play the host, and since the joint hosts the Hoyas for many home games, this means, should John Thompson III's team be especially good next year, it will not be able to play in D.C. as a high seed.

Well, the NCAA rules committee is recommending a change, requiring basketball courts be 'of a consistent surface' so player safety isn't compromised. Gary Parrish says it took long, but at least it's not too late.

Former Kentucky starter arrested and charged with sexual abuse of two teenage girls

Former Kentucky starter Michael Porter -- who was with the team from 2006 to 2009 -- was arrested early Tuesday morning on charges related to sex acts with minors. The information is still coming out, so the story is in its initial stages, but what we do know, according to Lex18.com, is that the 25-year-old Porter allegedly was inappropriate with a 15- and a 14-year-old girl.
